Greetings to Prag (Anti-NATO)
Dear friends, dear comrades,
first of all we wish you good luck for your actions against the NATO-summit and send our greetings and our solidarity from Munich.
The imminent war against Iraq and the terror-hysteria since the 11th of September 2001 is diminishing the significance of the summit in Prague in the public interest. This is the first NATO-summit that takes place in a former socialist country. With this historic turning point the military dominance of
the west is displayed.
But much more relevant are the political decisions that are on the agenda in Prague. In the public discussion it is named an “extension summit”, because the NATO is preparing to accept seven east- and south-east European countries as members. This is a extraordinary expansion that is intended to extend the free play of the western alliance to the east. The special interests of the USA, the driving power behind the expansion, play an important part here. Since their military policy that is solely concentrated on the alleged fight against terrorism and mass-destruction-weapons they try to increase the number of their allies.
After the 11th of September the future of the NATO is not only in question, many even said the alliance to be dead. Here in Prague possibly the momentary insignificance of the alliance could be reversed into a central part of “Enduring Freedom”. The terms are set: Implementation of a NATO-task-force of about 20.000 soldiers, acceptance of the American national security policy including preventative (even nuclear) attacks to put a stop to proliferation, and participation in an attack on Iraq.
In Prague as well as in Munich, against NATO or the “rapid task force” of the EU, the protests and resistance against inward and outward militarisation cannot focus only on the summits. Only a continually international discussion and building of networks that is not reduced on the “own” movement, but sees the “project new world order” in its whole, has a chance to fight the economic neo-imperialism.
