The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a military alliance, established by the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4April 1949. Consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, eachof them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence will assist the Party or Parties being attacked, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such actionas it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area. ”
